TASC spearheading Australia's first Youth Court

Wednesday 4th Nov 2009

Community Development Coordinator Sue Gordon is dead-set keen on instigating Australia's first youth court, a court completely facilitated by youth.

"Youth Courts have been used very effectively in the United States with strong evidence to suggest that peer orientated courts can be far more effective in dealing with slight offences or behavioural issues within the school context," Sue said.

Sue Gordon was the beneficary of the TASC Smarterstate Scholarship in 2009 and spent time working with the NYC Centre for Court Innovation, thus experiencing the dynamics of a Youth Court.

Embryonic discussions have occurred with Education Queensland with an extremely favorable response.
